About Us: Our camp is a fully accessible overnight camp situated in the picturesque Notre Dames Du Laus. It is dedicated to providing a joyful and inclusive experience for adults with disabilities. Sonshine Cove is a haven for fostering personal growth, building meaningful connections, and creating cherished memories. Please note that transportation is provided out of our main office in Orleans Ontario.

Position Overview: As a Camp Counselor at Sonshine Cove, you will have the opportunity to play a vital role in creating a positive and inclusive environment for our campers. NOTE: This is an overnight position, we are physically away at the camp and staff sleep overnight in shared accommodations. Counselors will be actively involved in supporting campers with disabilities, adapting activities to individual needs, and contributing to the overall success of the camp experience. Some campers may require help with personal care, however, full training will be provided before counselors complete any personal care tasks.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct support and assistance with personal care needs for campers with disabilities.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive community where every camper is valued and celebrated.
  • Help to deliver camp activities such as arts and crafts, karaoke, dance nights, side-by-side rides, indoor/ outdoor games and more! Seasonal activities such as, hikes, boating, swimming, snow shoeing etc.
  • Collaborate with camp director to create an accessible and engaging camp experience.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of campers at all times.
  • Act as a positive role model, promoting independence and self-advocacy.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum age requirement of 16 years old.
  • Passion for working with adults with disabilities in a camp or similar setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Compassion, patience, and a genuine desire to make a positive impact.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to the needs of campers.
  • G2 or Higher Drivers License (strongly preferred)
  • First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • CPI certification (Provided by Sonshine)

Part Time:

We are currently seeking compassionate and dedicated individuals, starting from the age of 16, to join our team as Camp Counselors for the upcoming Winter and Spring Season.

Weekend Camps run from 5pm on Friday to 5pm on Sunday. Counsellors are not expected to work all weekends but are able to work 1-2 weekends a month based on their availability. We are currently only considering applications of those that are also available for March Break camp (March 16th 8am- 20th 5pm)

Full Time

Full Time Positions at Sonshine Cove are seasonal over the months of July and August. Part-Time counsellors are welcome to convert to full-time for the summer.

During the summer, camps are out of town and run from 8am on Mondays to 5pm on Fridays with weekends off. We are currently considering applications for camp counsellors, a maintenance worker, a coordinator and assistant coordinator.
